About FreeConvertter
FreeConvertter is a free collection of file converters for documents, e-books, PDFs and spreadsheets — built around one idea: your files should never have to leave your device.
Why another converter?
Most online converters upload your file to a server, convert it there and keep it for a while. That is slow for large files, uses your data allowance, and means trusting a stranger with contracts, invoices, manuscripts or personal photos.
FreeConvertter works differently. Modern browsers are powerful enough to read and write these formats themselves, so every conversion happens in the browser tab you are looking at. Nothing is uploaded, there is no queue, and conversion speed depends only on your own device.
What you can do
- E-books: convert EPUB, MOBI, AZW3 and FB2, and build EPUB books from text, Markdown or HTML.
- PDF: extract text, turn pages into images, turn images into PDFs, and merge, split, extract, delete or rotate pages.
- Documents: convert Word (DOCX) files to and from HTML, Markdown and plain text.
- Markup: convert between Markdown, HTML and plain text.
- Spreadsheets: convert between XLSX, XLS, ODS, CSV and JSON without losing leading zeros or garbling text.
How it works
Each converter is a small program that runs in a background thread of your browser. It uses well-known open-source libraries — such as Mozilla’s PDF.js, pdf-lib, mammoth, docx and SheetJS — together with our own readers for formats such as MOBI and FB2. You can see the full list on the open-source licenses page.
We test the converters with files made by real applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel on Korean and English systems, to make sure details like character encodings, dates and table layouts come through correctly.
How the site is funded
The tools are free and require no account. The site is funded by ads, which are kept away from the converter buttons. You can control advertising cookies at any time; see the Privacy Policy.
