Why convert JSON to XLSX?
- Review data — inspect API responses or exports in a familiar spreadsheet.
- Share with non-developers — colleagues can open, filter and chart the data in Excel.
- Reporting — start a report from raw JSON exports.
How the conversion works
The JSON is parsed and its shape is detected. Rows and columns are built from it, nested structures are stored as JSON text, and the workbook is written as XLSX.
What is a JSON file?
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is the standard text format for structured data on the web. It represents objects as {"key": value} pairs and lists as [ … ], with strings, numbers, booleans and null as values. APIs, configuration files and NoSQL databases all use it.
Tabular data in JSON is usually a list of objects — one object per row, with column names as keys — or a list of arrays, one per row.
What is an XLSX file?
XLSX is Microsoft Excel’s default workbook format since 2007, based on the Office Open XML standard. A workbook can contain several sheets, each a grid of cells holding text, numbers, dates or formulas, together with formatting, charts and comments. Inside, it is a ZIP archive of XML files.
XLSX opens in Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, Apple Numbers and Hancom Cell. Files ending in .xlsm are the same format with macros enabled.
