Why convert MOBI to TXT?

  • Text-to-speech — feed clean text to TTS apps and screen readers.
  • Search and analysis — plain text works with any search tool or text-analysis script.
  • Maximum compatibility — TXT opens on any device, including very old e-readers.

How the conversion works

The MOBI container is decoded and decompressed, the book is split at its page breaks, and each chapter’s markup is converted to plain text with paragraph breaks preserved.

What is a MOBI file?

MOBI is the Mobipocket e-book format that Amazon adopted for early Kindle devices. It is a Palm Database (PDB) container with compressed HTML-like text, images and metadata. Many older e-book collections and public-domain libraries still distribute books as .mobi or .prc.

Amazon has since moved to newer formats and no longer accepts MOBI for Send to Kindle, so converting MOBI files to EPUB is the easiest way to keep reading them on modern devices and apps.

What is a TXT file?

A TXT file contains plain text only: no fonts, layout, images or hidden markup. That makes it the most portable document format there is. It opens on every device and in every text editor, is easy to search and process with scripts, and takes up very little space.

The trade-off is that formatting such as bold text, tables and pictures cannot be stored. Line breaks and blank lines are the only structure a TXT file has.

Frequently asked questions

Is formatting kept?

TXT is plain text, so images and styling are dropped. Paragraphs, headings and chapter breaks are kept as line breaks and blank lines.

Are DRM-protected books supported?

No. DRM-protected books are detected and refused. Only DRM-free files can be converted.

The text looks garbled in an old program. What can I do?

Convert again with the "UTF-8 with BOM" encoding option, which helps older Windows programs recognise the encoding.

Is my book uploaded?

No. The book is processed entirely inside your browser.
