Why convert FB2 to TXT?
- Universal compatibility — plain text opens on every device and in every editor.
- Text-to-speech and language learning — clean text works best with TTS apps and study tools.
- Search — quickly search the full text of your library.
How the conversion works
The FB2 structure — sections, titles, paragraphs, poems, epigraphs and notes — is converted to plain text with titles and paragraphs separated by line breaks and blank lines, in the order they appear in the book.
What is an FB2 file?
FB2 (FictionBook 2) is an XML-based e-book format that is especially popular in Russia and other Eastern European countries. Instead of describing how a book looks, FB2 describes its structure: sections, titles, paragraphs, poems, epigraphs, footnotes and citations. Images are stored inside the same file as base64 text.
FB2 files are easy to archive and search, but fewer reading apps support them than EPUB, which is why converting FB2 to EPUB is a common need.
What is a TXT file?
A TXT file contains plain text only: no fonts, layout, images or hidden markup. That makes it the most portable document format there is. It opens on every device and in every text editor, is easy to search and process with scripts, and takes up very little space.
The trade-off is that formatting such as bold text, tables and pictures cannot be stored. Line breaks and blank lines are the only structure a TXT file has.
