Why convert DOCX to TXT?
- Paste anywhere — plain text goes into forms, code, emails and messages without stray formatting.
- Search and analysis — text tools, scripts and AI tools work best with clean text.
- Archive — TXT is the most future-proof format there is.
How the conversion works
The document is read with mammoth.js and turned into text paragraph by paragraph. Headings, paragraphs and list items each start on a new line, and you choose whether paragraphs are separated by a blank line.
What is a DOCX file?
DOCX is the default document format of Microsoft Word since 2007, standardised as Office Open XML (ISO/IEC 29500). A DOCX file is a ZIP archive containing XML files for the text, styles, numbering and comments, plus a media folder for images.
Because it is an open standard, DOCX also opens in Google Docs, LibreOffice, Apple Pages, WPS Office and Hancom Office. Older Word files with the .doc extension use a different binary format and are not the same as DOCX.
What is a TXT file?
A TXT file contains plain text only: no fonts, layout, images or hidden markup. That makes it the most portable document format there is. It opens on every device and in every text editor, is easy to search and process with scripts, and takes up very little space.
The trade-off is that formatting such as bold text, tables and pictures cannot be stored. Line breaks and blank lines are the only structure a TXT file has.
