Why convert PDF to PNG?
- Perfect for text and graphics — charts, tables and slides stay razor sharp.
- Editing — PNG is a safe intermediate format for image editors because it never loses quality.
- Documentation — embed exact page images in wikis, tutorials and reports.
How the conversion works
PDF.js renders each selected page at the resolution you choose, and the result is encoded as a lossless PNG. Pages are processed one by one to keep memory use low, even on phones.
What is a PDF file?
PDF (Portable Document Format) was created by Adobe and is now an open ISO standard (ISO 32000). A PDF fixes the exact layout of every page — fonts, images and positions — so a document looks the same on every screen and printer. That makes it the standard for contracts, invoices, manuals, papers and forms.
Inside, a PDF stores each page as drawing instructions. Text written by a program is stored as real characters (a “text layer”) and can be selected and extracted. Scanned documents usually store only a picture of each page, so their text cannot be extracted without OCR.
What is a PNG file?
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a lossless image format: every pixel is stored exactly, so text, lines and screenshots stay perfectly sharp. PNG also supports transparency, which makes it the usual choice for logos, diagrams and interface graphics.
Because nothing is discarded, PNG files of photos are larger than the same photo saved as JPG.
