Why convert Markdown to TXT?
- Plain-text destinations — forms, SMS, app store descriptions and other places that don’t render Markdown.
- Text-to-speech — symbols such as # and * are not read aloud.
- Word counts — count words without syntax characters.
How the conversion works
The Markdown is rendered with the marked library and the result is converted to plain text, keeping headings, paragraphs and list items on their own lines.
What is a Markdown file?
Markdown (.md) is a lightweight way to write formatted text using plain characters: # Heading, **bold**, *italic*, - list item and so on. It stays readable as raw text, yet converts cleanly to HTML.
Markdown is used everywhere from GitHub README files and documentation sites to note-taking apps such as Obsidian, Notion exports and many static site generators.
What is a TXT file?
A TXT file contains plain text only: no fonts, layout, images or hidden markup. That makes it the most portable document format there is. It opens on every device and in every text editor, is easy to search and process with scripts, and takes up very little space.
The trade-off is that formatting such as bold text, tables and pictures cannot be stored. Line breaks and blank lines are the only structure a TXT file has.
